Questions

The things people ask most about Ringwave.

What do I need to play?

Windows 10 or 11, or a 64-bit Linux, and a graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.3. A mouse is enough for the Aim mode; the Dual mode also uses the keyboard. Everything is on the download page.

Is there a Mac version?

Not for now: Ringwave runs on Windows and Linux.

What’s the difference between Aim and Dual?

In Aim, you only play the round notes with the mouse: keep your cursor on each one as it reaches the ring. Dual adds the square notes, which you hit with any key on the beat. Same song, same map, two ways to play it.

What do the stars mean?

Every difficulty gets a star rating from 0 to 10, measured from its notes: how far and how fast you have to aim, how dense the rhythm is. The colours group them into tiers, from Easy to Extreme.

How do I add a map I downloaded?

Put the .rwmap file in the game’s maps folder, then restart the game:

Can I make my own maps?

Yes. Open the editor from the pencil on the menu ring, then drop in a song (mp3, ogg or wav). Pick one or more star ranges and the generator writes the notes for you; you can then change anything by hand and test from any point.

My hits always feel a little early or late

Open Settings, then Audio, and run the tap test: press Space on each of the ten clicks. The game measures how far off you are and sets the audio offset for you.

The game stutters on my computer

Switch to Performance mode in Settings, under Performance. You can also hold Shift while the game starts to choose between Normal and Performance mode. Timing and scoring are exactly the same in both.

Where are my scores?

On your computer, for now. Accounts with online scores and leaderboards are coming in a later update.

A map uses my music without my permission

Please tell us through the takedown form: the map will be removed.
